MN SNAP
Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MN SNAP) is a local non-profit that provides high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay and neuter services to those in need and animal welfare education in the communities they serve. They want to strengthen its current capabilities with a website redesign initiative, in order to refresh its content, update its looks and feel, and improve its user experience overall. Doing the research and interview process with my team, I made a Findings and Recommendations report with the data collected.

I was given a document with a brief description of the company and its mission and overview as well as provided site goals, primary users, secondary users, and primary tasks.
As a nonprofit, their key goals were to have Education about their program and spaying and neutering, easily accessible. As well as helping to drive donors to the site, ensuring that the experience once there is supportive and seamless
With these goals in mind, the focus areas were Navigation and Hierarchy. These two are the main pain-points in which affect how users can find information. If it’s easy to navigate, the users are more likely to stay on the site and get informed,. And if there is correct hierarchy, the information is easily scannable and will let the users gather the most information in a short amount of time.
Approach
With the information provided in the initial brief, I set some groundwork, putting together affinity diagrams and test planning. I made a Usability Review in order to make a concise approach to writing out the Scenarios and the Usability Script.
I conducted two personal interviews and had an in-lab usability test with three other participants. These interviews were remote and ran through two scenarios:
You are an owner in MN that is a Twin Cities resident. You’ve recently adopted a 5-pound female kitten from a friend's litter. They recommend checking out MN SNAP as a potential resource.
Put yourself in the place of someone for whom the issue of animal welfare in your state is a priority. You were referred to this organization and want to find out if they share the same values.
Within these two tasks, there were eight tasks for the participants to accomplish in order to tackle the goal areas that needed the most user information.
Outcome
With the data from the remote interview testing, a synthesis of observations and themes was conducted. Once that was finished, I created a Finding and Recommendations Report. I focused my observations and recommendations on the wayfinding of tasks (which ties into the website's navigation. Finding the information we tasked the participants with). As well as a key donation event that did not have a landing page or presence on the website. You can see the full report here: MN SNAP Report.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I conducted user interviews and usability tests to better understand what areas were difficult to find and navigate to. With that information, I took the main observations and ideas and created a Findings and Recommendations Report.
